In 1880, John and Annie and child Jessie M. were living in Pleasant Unity, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania (census page 380), where John was listed as a storekeeper. In 1900 (census page 4) and 1910 (page 10B), the family was in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, where John was farming. By 1920, the family had moved to Greensburg, Westmoreland County (page 7B). In 1930, Annie, widow, was in Greensburg (page 3B) with grandson Donald Barr, born circa 1915.

150. ALICE5 MAUDE JAMISON (Joseph4, Robert3, Robert2, Francis1); born 14 October 1859 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; married C. B. FISHER.256 The 1860 federal census does not list an Alice Maude, but does list a Mary E. Jamison born 1860, i.e., age 6/12—the 1870 federal census257 does list Alice, born circa 1859, but no Mary.

By 1900, Maude was a widow. She lived in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1900 (census page 10B), 1910 (page 10A), 1920 (page 6B) and 1930 (page 4A). In 1910, Maude's aunt Amanda Jamison (#63), single, was living with the family; in 1920 and 1930, Maude's sister Carrie A. Jamison (#155), single, was living with the family—Carrie was listed as a stenographer for an insurance company in 1920. Also living with the family in 1920 was Maude's niece Margaret Topper (#222), single.

The family lived in Mutual, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1900 (census page 7A), 1910 (page 27A), and 1920 (page 5B), where Harry was enumerated as a farmer. By 1930, Mary had died and Harry had moved to Oneco Township, Manatee County, Florida, where he was living as a boarder and enumerated as a truck farmer

Jamison, born circa 1890 in Pennsylvania, were living in South Greensburg, Pennsylvania where Ray was enumerated as a foreman in the Clay Shop (census page 4B).
  218 iii. Verna Mabel Jamison; born 22 October 1895 in Greensburg, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; died 30 October 1967 in Mobile Alabama; married (first) William A. Allison, born circa 1893. In 1920, William and Verna, no children, were living with Verna's parents in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where William was listed as an electrician.

Verna married (second) Victor McKinley Walter, born 7 May 1896 in Pentalos, Kansas; died 9 February 1952 in Mobile Alabama.259

153. ROBERT LINCOLN5 JAMISON (Joseph4, Robert3, Robert2, Francis1), born 28 November 1865 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; married IDA MAY POLLINS, born May 1869 in Pennsylvania.260

In 1900 (census page 28B) and 1910 (page 16B), the family was living in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where Robert was a grocery merchant. By 1930, Robert, Ida and son John P. were living in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, where both Robert and John were enumerated as managers of department stores.261

  219 i. John6 Pollins Jamison; born April 1890 in Pennsylvania. In 1920, John P., single, was living as a boarder with Ray D. Jamison and wife in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where Ray was listed as a foreman of a clay factory and John was listed as “machine”??. The 1920 federal census did nor state that John and Ray were brothers; and the 1900 and 1910 federal censuses din not report a Ray Jamison,262 In 1930, John was living with his parents.
  220 ii. Joseph Steel Jamison; born 30 June 1894 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania; married Marion W. [—?—]; born circa 1898 in Pennsylvania. Joseph's 1942 World War II Draft Registration Card, report Joseph and Marion living in Jackson Heights, New York, and Joseph listed as a professional singer). In 1930 Joseph and Marion were living in Queens, New York, where J. Steele Jamison was enumerated as a vocalist (census page 10A.)


154. LIZZIE5 JOSEPHINE JAMISON (Joseph4, Robert3, Robert2, Francis1); born 26 November 1868 in Westmoreland County; married EDWARD H. TOPPER, born December 1863 in Pennsylvania. By 1920, Edward was listed as a widower. The family lived in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, where Edward was listed as a truck farmer..

Children of Edward and Josephine (Jamison) Topper (all born in Pennsylvania):263

  221 i. Joseph6 J. Topper; born 12 March 1895; died 23 November 1982; he did not marry. He was the oldest child and was head of the household in 1920 and 1930, when he was enumerated as a truck farmer.
  222 ii. Margaret L. Topper; born 16 March 1896; died 10 May 1987. In 1920 Margaret, single, was living with her aunt Maude M. Fisher (#150) in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where she was enumerated as a timekeeper in the railroad office.
  223 iii. Robert H. Topper; born August 1898. He was listed as a fireman in a coal mine in 1920 and 1930. Still single in 1930.
  224 iv. Wayne W. Topper; born August 1899; married Alice [—+—], born circa 1908. In 1930, Wayne and family were in Unity Township, Westmoreland County (census page 11A), where Wayne was enumerated as a farmer.

Also with the family in 1930 was Ella’s brother John R. ?Fallicker, born circa 1913 in Pennsylvania and listed as a cold miner in 1930.

WILLIAM5 WIBLE JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1) born 10 March 1860 in Pennsylvania; died 24 December 1944; married 10 March 1886 ELIZABETH ECCLES, born 25 December 1860 in Pennsylvana; Elizabeth was a daughter of Johnson and Jane (McLune) Eccles.264 William’s photograph is opposite page 114, in Boucher and Hedley, III, (1918).

The family lived in Seatlle, Washington, in 1910 (census page 18A) and in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, in 1910 (page 5A) and 1930 (page 11A) when William was an executive with the Jamison Coal and Coke Company.

  228 iii. Thomas P. Jamison; born 18 April 1892; died 25 February 1933; married 12 June 1917 Dorothy Tebbitts, born 8 May 1895 in Kentucky; died 25 September 1935. In 1930, the family was in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where Thomas was also listed as an oil operator, drilling (page 9A). Also living with the family in 1930 was Dorothy's mother, Sara R. Tebbitts

165. JOHN5 MARTIN JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1) born 8 March 1864 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; died 16 December 1950; married 1 February 1893 HETTIE BARCLAY, born 8 September 1867 in Pennsylvania; died 18 January 1957.266

The family lived in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where John was an attorney and was associated with the Jamison Coal and Coke Company. John Martin Jamison was a Princeton graduate (1887), read law and was admitted to the Westmoreland County bar in 1888. He was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate, 1908–1912. John Martin Jamison headed the Jamison Coal and Coke Company for 43 years—see “The Jamison Coal and Coke Company.” His photograph is opposite page 65 in Boucher and Hedley (1918), Volume III.

THOMAS5 STEWART JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1) born 10 March 1866 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; died 30 May 1945; married MARGARET WELTY, born 20 September 1872 in Pennsylvania, died 24 November 1916. Thomas attended Kiskiminitas Seminary in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and was an executive of the Jamison Coal and Coke Company.269

CHARLES5 MARION JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1), born 7 April 1868 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; married 7 August 1913 CECILIA RAYBURN of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, born 13 June 1881 in Pennsylvania. Charles M. Jamison graduated from Princeton (1891); by 1918, he was Secretary of the Jamison Coke and Coal Company.272 His photograph is opposite page 6 in Boucher and Hedley, III, (1918).

168. ROBERT5 SMITH JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1), born 3 May 1870 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; died 14 February 1950; married, 8 December 1904, EMMA PATRICK, born 28 February 1878; died 1953.275. She was a native of Austin, Texas.

Robert and Emma lived in Deadwood, Lawrence County, South Dakota, in 1910, where Robert was a banker. In 1920, the family lived in Denver, Colorado, where Robert was a manager of a coal mine There is a biography of Robert S. Jamison on pages 879-880 in "History of Dakota Territory" by George W. Kingsbury, Volume V (1915)—scanned, OCRed and edited by Maurice Krueger.

169. HUGH5 DAVID JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1), born 2 December 1872 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; died 12 February 1945; married (first) SARAH BARCLAY; born circa 1870 in Pennsylvania; married (second) MARGARET B. CRAWFORD, born 13 March 1886 in Pennsylvania.277

Hugh David Jamison was a medical doctor—an eye specialist. Hugh and Sarah lived in Greensburg, Pennsylvania in 1910 (census page 8B). In 1920, the family was in East Orange, Essex County, New Jersey (page 16A), and in 1930 in Summit Township, Union County, New Jersey (page 7B). Also with the family in 1920 was Margaret's mother, Isabelle Crawford, widow, born circa 1860 in Pennsylvania.

170. RICHARD5 HOWARD JAMISON (Robert4, Hugh3, John2, Francis1), born 10 December 1875 in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania; died 7 December 1946; married 15 June 1905 MARIE JOSEPHINE LATTA, born 23 July 1881 in Pennsylvania; died 12 October 1972.278 The family lived in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Richard H. Jamison attended Princeton for 3 years but his schooling was interrupted by a stint in the army during the Spanish Civil War and he did not return to Princeton. He also was an executive of Jamison Coal and Coke Company. His photograph is opposite page 7, in Boucher and Hedley, III, 1906.

Marie Josephine (Latta) Jamison’s father was John Latta, born 5 March 1836 in Unity Township; died 15 February 1913 and buried in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. John Latta was a son of Moses and Eliza (Graham) Latta. John married (first) Emma Hope and had three children; after her death John Latta married (second) in 1876 Rose McClellan, and had five children, one daughter being Marie Josephine Latta. John Latta graduated from Yale in 1859. In 1863 he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate. In 1871 to 1872 he was elected to the Pennsylvania legislature. In 1874, he was nominated by the Democratic Convention for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania and won the election. When his term was up, he returned to private life in Greensburg.279 His photograph is on page 4 of Boucher and Hedley, III, (1918).

Hugh and Mary Louise (Woodmansee) Jamison have two children:

With the marriage of Hugh Jamison and Mary Louise Woodmansee, there is a very distant connection between my mother and father’s ancestors.283 My mother, Edith Marie Fleming, was a fourth cousin of Hugh Martin Jamison and my father, Ralph Zinn Clifford, was a third cousin twice removed of Hugh Jamison’s wife, Mary Louise Woodmansee.

In 1915, Jay C. Jamison became General Superintendent of the Jamison Coke and Coal Company and held office and owned interests in many other energy–related companies, for example, the Marion Gas and Coal Company, the Irwin Gas Coal Company and the New Alexandria Coke Company.
